The island is the largest sand island in the world and also a UNESCO world heritage site. The Aborigines call it "K'gari" which means paradise.
Fraser Island is definitely a place which should be on your travel bucket list! The island is 124 kilometres long and has lots of breath-taking, beautiful spots. However, there is no public transportation and you are only allowed to go on the island by a four-wheel vehicle. Therefore, I would suggest booking a guided tour. Usually companies offer trips which include 2 or 3 nights camping, transportation (starting from the mainland), food and non-alcoholic drinks as well as guided activities. They provide you with sleeping bags and tents, so you don't have to worry about these things. I booked my tour with Drop Bear Adventures which I can highly recommend. I went with a group of 20 people. We formed a convey of 4×4 trucks heading around Fraser Island. Anyone who fancied driving took it in turns to drive one of the trucks in the convoy – although you do need to be over 21 and have a valid driving license with you. We visited rainforests, did sand-boarding, watched wild dingoes and went to some freshwater lakes (there are over a 100 on the island) with extremely clean and clear water. Bathing in the sea on the long sandy beaches, however, is not recommended and can be life-threatening due to dangerous currents. We spent the evenings around the campfire and just had great fun. It cost about £200 - I know it's a lot of money but it's definitely worth it! On Fraser you feel like being in an adventure land.
Soooo Good!
