Australia

Are you also interested in travelling and get to know new place? Then you are exactly right here!

After recently finishing my road trip around Australia I’m often asked what are the top places in Australia to visit? And what experiences should be on my bucket list? Therefore, I created this blog. A trip to Australia (Oz) is a truly a memorable adventure and I would like to make this impression experiencable for you. So, come with me and I will take you on a journey through Oz.

What makes Australia so special?

It is a vast country with amazingly nice people, beautiful landscapes and exotic wildlife. You will need many trips to discover the entire diversity of Australia. You can spend weeks or even months experiencing this versatile continent - from coast to coast, from deserts to rainforests or from modern metropolises to mythical and historical monuments like Uluru (formally known as Ayers Rock). Basically, there is truly something to delight everyone. Luckily, a whole culture of solo travellers is established. Nowhere else will you be greeted with such open arms and with such a strong infrastructure for travellers.

When is the best time of the year to go to Australia?

Australia is located in the southern hemisphere. In the west, the country borders the Indian Ocean and the east coast borders the South Pacific. Due to the enormous size of Australia, there are different climate zones here. It is tropical up north, whereas the mid-latitudes are characterized by a subtropical climate. The southern part of the country has a moderate climate.

The seasons in Australia are opposite to the European seasons.  So, when it is summer in the northern hemisphere, it is winter in Australia. In general, Australia rarely gets as cold as we are used to in Europe. Even the winters are pretty mild. The warmest time to travel is between October and March. At this time, you can expect temperatures of 25 ° C to 40 ° C depending on the region. As a rule of thumb, remember that the centre of Australia has the highest temperatures. The further you travel towards the coast, the cooler it gets and rainfall becomes more likely. The Australian spring (October to December) is good for city breaks, hikes and National Park visits and you can have a great beach holiday in the Australian summer (January to March). The Australian autumn and winter (April to September) is the best time to visit the desert regions in the centre of Australia.

In addition, the period from October to March is the most popular travel time among Australians. This means that tickets, hotels and campgrounds are more expensive and can be booked up long in advance. You should consider this when planning your trip. In order to better plan your vacation, I have attached a table which gives you a rough overview of where and when it is the best time to travel to the main cities or areas.
